If i got my ticket

The latest cd i bought from Larry Norman was Maximum SOn.

On this CD i stumbled upon the very nice version of “Lord if i got my ticket” a very old negrospiritual.

In this version Larry shows us how he is able to move within one song from old negro spiritual music to modern rock and roll within the same textframes.

To me this is a true diamond among all of his other songs.

Here he is putting all he has said about rock and roll came from the african enslaved people  to america .

During this song he is able to practise musically what he has been saying for years about modern rock and roll as the provence of God  instead of that of the devil. In contrary to what most elderly people during the fifties were saying.

The song  starts with a very old fashioned negroe spiritual oriented way of singing and moves as the song developes to heavier accompanied guitars,drums and distiortion until the song has completely shifted into a real rock and roll song.

Three rusty nails

I took a walk uphill today

i  counted crowes and  was there to pray

as some stranger came on by and spoke to me

“ you’re on Golgotha don’t you see?”

so i had stumbled upon this dreadfull place

where i was saved by blood and  grace

i searched around , looked on the ground

three rusty bloodstained nails i found

this is the spot where He laid down His life

all his friends were standing by in one accord

Are these three rusty bloodstained nails

 the ones that held my Lord?

THE WAR BETWEEN THE SON AND MOON

The war between the Son and moon

has already started

since we left the  garden

where the serpents lie polluted

every stubborn mind and hard-hearted

since He left the grave

as the stone was rolled away

and broken bondage' mended

Embraced by His words

TALKiNG TO MISTER TUMNUS

i just talked to mister Tumnus
while he was sitting in his cave
he was urging me to listen
to what he had to say

he told me how he once got saved
from a certain stone cold death
he didn’t realise what had happened
he just felt a lions breath

i didn’t believe him
i couldn’t agree
i wasn’t aware
of the moving tree

i asked him how on earth
one could be saved by breath
and how one can be turned
from stone to flesh again

He looked up from behind his desk
he smiled at me and said
you’re not looking for an answer
you’re not ready for it yet

Now if you don’t believe the rumours
about the Lion on the prowl
and if you’re not ready for the answers
your not ready for the bow


why don’t you ask me
how one can become a statue...
of the hardest stone
without a heart
without a soul
without a sound...
or tone

‘cause when that happens you’re in trouble
your in trouble deep
and you’ll only find salvation
when the Lion wakes you...
from your stone cold sleep
